Fairfax-Bolinas Road CONDITION UPDATES, thank you for your patience: At milepost 5.73, Fairfax-Bolinas Road will be open on weekdays and weekends from 12/16/24 through 1/1/25 (weather permitting), with traffic controlled through a single lane with alternating access. This is to accommodate the holiday traffic. From 1/2/25 through 1/5/25, the road will be closed at milepost 5.73 to allow for construction activities as the project nears completion, weather permitting. After 1/5/25, it is anticipated that the road will be closed from Azalea Hill to Ridgecrest on weekdays only. By mid-January, the project is expected to be completed and the roadway will fully reopen. See project webpage for details.

Special Provisions

  • Refer to Transportation Permit Regulations No. 1-49. Special attention is directed to Transportation Permit Regulations No. 9, 12, 18, 21, 23, 27 and 29.
  • Movement of any load or equipment of 10 feet or more in width must have a pilot car as an escort and a “Wide Load” sign. Refer to Transportation Regulation No. 27 for pilot car requirements.
  • Movement of any load or equipment 10 feet or more in width is prohibited from the following County roads between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
    • Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Larkspur City Limits to Ross City Limits.
    • College Avenue from Sir Francis Drake Boulevard to Larkspur City Limits.
    • Almonte Boulevard from Highway 1 to Mill Valley City Limits.
  • No movement of any equipment authorized by this permit is allowed on Miller Creek Road.
  • Movement over Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Lagunitas to just east of Tocaloma is not authorized if the loads exceed legal dimensions or weight.
  • Permittee is responsible to check all underpasses, bridges, overhead wires, or other structures and obstructions for impaired vertical clearance and to bypass or arrange clearance at such locations. Refer to Transportation Regulation No. 12 for loads that exceed legal height.
  • Movement over the section of County roads or bridges listed below is not authorized if the loads are in excess of legal height.
    • Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Lagunitas to just east of Tocaloma.
    • Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Wolfe Grade Road to Manor Road.
    • Orange loads or lighter are allowed to cross Nicasio Valley Road at MP 2.82 (green and purple prohibited).
  • Movement over the sections of County roads or bridges listed below is not authorized if the loads are in excess of legal weight.
    • Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Lagunitas to just east of Tocaloma.
    • South San Antonio Road Bridge at the Marin-Sonoma County Line.
    • San Geronimo Valley Drive between Railroad Avenue and Redwood Avenue.
    • Nicasio Valley Road at Halleck Creek Bridge.
    • Middle Road Bridge at Marin-Sonoma County Line.
    • Pacific Way, Muir Beach.
    • Mather Road, San Anselmo (Sleepy Hollow).
    • McKinley Road, San Rafael (Marinwood).
    • Diablo Circle, San Rafael (Marinwood).
    • Roundtree Way, San Rafael (Marinwood).
    • Enterprise Concourse, Mill Valley.
    • Lassen Drive across Miller Creek, San Rafael (Marinwood).
    • Twin Bridge Road at Semple Creek Bridge.
    • Meadow Way Bridge across San Geronimo Creek.
    • Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Bear Valley Road to Highway 1.
  • Routing over the County roads or bridges listed below is not authorized for oversized loads:
    • Motor vehicles in excess of thirty (30) feet are prohibited from travelling over the following streets and highways:
      • Muir Woods Road Muir Woods National Monument entrance (milepost 1.52) east to Panoramic Highway.
    • Motor vehicles in excess of thirty-six (36) feet are prohibited from travelling over the following streets and highways:
      • Muir Woods Road and Franks Valley Road from Shoreline Highway east to Muir Woods National Monument entrance (milepost 1.52)*
      • Panoramic Highway*
      • Tennessee Valley Road*
      • Sequoia Valley Road*
      • Lucas Valley Road between West Gate Drive and Big Rock (Loma Alta Fire Road/Big Rock Trail)
        *In accordance with Marin County Code 13.06.050, a special permit may be obtained using the attached County of Marin application for Motor Vehicle >36’ and/or Tour Bus Special Permit.
  • Movement of any equipment on vehicle of gross weight in excess of the weights listed below is not authorized.
    • Motor vehicles of a gross weight in excess of three tons are prohibited on Paradise Drive.
    • Motor vehicles of a gross weight in excess of fourteen thousand pounds are prohibited on Via Escondida, between the boundary of the City of Novato and the southeasterly side of Calle Paseo. For this weight limit the exemptions of California Vehicle Code Section 35714 do not apply.
    • Motor vehicles of a gross weight in excess of fourteen thousand pounds are prohibited on Miller Creek Road.
