Binford Road Pavement Preservation

Description

Overview

Binford Road is a critical corridor in unincorporated Marin County, providing sole access to the Marin County Airport (Gnoss Field) and nearby businesses. The road is showing signs of wear and requires maintenance to preserve safe conditions for road users.

In June 2025, the Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) will be conducting pavement preservation maintenance work along a 1.3-mile section of Binford Road, extending from just north of the Novato city limit to Airport Road.

The work will begin on the northern segment of the road—which has fewer vehicles and structures—and shift to the southern segment, which has a higher concentration of roadside activity. This sequencing is designed to allow those further south an opportunity to observe the process and prepare for the temporary impacts of construction.

Marin County Health and Human Services (HHS), through its Homelessness and Coordinated Care division,  will be supporting the Binford Road pavement repair efforts by conducting outreach and engagement with individuals living along the road to ensure they are informed about the project.

NOTE: Following this pavement repair work, DPW plans to return for a second phase of improvements involving crack sealing and resurfacing. Dates for that future project are still being determined.

Funding

The estimated $85,000 project is funded by revenue from the Senate Bill 1 (SB1) Road Repair and Accountability Act.

Public impacts

Construction is scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM daily. One lane will be closed during work hours, with traffic managed by flaggers to allow alternating, one-way access. Wait times are expected to be 5–10 minutes. Both lanes will be fully open outside construction hours.

Access to roadside vehicles and businesses may be temporarily restricted, but work in each area is expected to last only 1–2 hours. County staff will communicate directly with affected individuals in advance, and a flagger will be available to assist pedestrians as needed. HHS outreach teams will also be onsite to support encampment residents and help mitigate disruptions.
