Edgewood Avenue Road Stabilization Project

Description

Overview

The downhill slope near 643 Edgewood Avenue in unincorporated Mill Valley has experienced slow creep and roadway settlement over the years. While soil movement is a normal occurrence and not inherently a risk to the public or nearby infrastructure, the County has been monitoring the Edgewood location with the help of a geotechnical firm since it was identified in 2012. This past winter, the soil movement increased and, while it was not enough to be an emergency, the related roadway settling warranted the need for a retaining wall.  The County plans to install an approximately 54-foot-long retaining wall this summer to shore up the roadway in advance of the rainy season.

Funding

The estimate for this project is $710,000 and it will be funded by the County's Road & Bridge Fund.

Traffic impacts

It is anticipated that there will be significant traffic impacts to residents living in this area. There will be temporary daytime road closures lasting 30 minutes to 7 hours during certain phases of the work. Staff will provide advance notice and work closely with residents to minimize disruption. Active emergency vehicle access will be granted at all times. The roadway will be reopened outside of working hours.
