Marin City Noise Analysis (TAM and County project)
Description
This project is being done in partnership between the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) and the County of Marin.
Overview
The Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) in cooperation with the County of Marin is conducting the Marin City Noise Analysis Project Initiation Document (MCNA-PID / Marin City Noise Analysis) to respond to resident concerns about noise from US-101. This is a collaborative effort with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to assess sound impacts from Highway 101 and the possibility of alleviation options for Marin City. Conducting a comprehensive study and analysis of this nature is necessary before any potential infrastructure project can be considered.
In separate Board meetings in April and May 2025, TAM and the County of Marin approved to move forward with the Marin City Noise Analysis. During the study and report development process, TAM and the County will communicate progress to interested parities and the community of Marin City.
The Marin City Noise Analysis is expected to include the following elements:
- Measure existing noise levels at representative receptor locations
- Model the noise levels using FHWA Traffic Noise Model to predict existing noise levels within the study limits
- Identify noise impacts and recommend potential noise abatement measures
Funding
The estimated $700,000 project is being funded by TAM (50%) and the County of Marin (50%).
Public impacts
The noise analysis study and development of the report will not impact public access.
Timeline
All dates are tentative and subject to change.
