Olema Hill Repaving
Description
Overview
The Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) is in the midst of a two-part project to repave an almost two-mile section of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard between Platform Bridge Road and Highway 1 in the Olema Hill area of West Marin.

Phase 1
Phase one of the project concluded in September 2025 after DPW performed a microgrinding and microsurfacing treatment of the road surface in order to smooth out the pavement in preparation for phase two.
As part of phase one, DPW restriped this portion of the road to narrow the lanes from 12 feet to 11 feet.
Phase 2
The next phase of the project is expected to kick off in late 2026 and conclude in early 2027.
As part of phase two, DPW will repave the almost two-mile section of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard between Platform Bridge Road and Highway 1, while also widening the shoulder in certain areas where the lane travels uphill.
The shoulder widening will be achieved by widening asphalt surface, where it can be accomplished without environmental impacts or cost-prohibitive grading, and by slightly shifting the double-yellow center line and associated white lines along the outside edge of the travel lane.
DPW previously performed a similar shoulder widening of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard from Chicken Ranch Beach to the junction of Pierce Point Road in October of 2024.

Funding
Funding for the project will come from the Marin County Department of Public Works’ Road and Bridge Fund and will cost about $1,560,000.
Traffic Impacts
Once phase two begins, one lane of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard will be closed from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Traffic will be managed by flaggers to allow alternating, one-way access.
Wait times are expected to be 5-10 minutes. Both lanes will be fully open outside construction hours.
