Traffic Safety Programs

Planning & Operations

Traffic lightTraffic engineering is the foundation of our roads system in Marin County, with the goal of providing our community with the safest roads possible. Staff engineers are responsible for planning and designing traffic operations of all roads and streets, excluding state highways.

Through the study and review of collision data, traffic patterns, and user habits, staff strives to develop plans and implement programs to maintain an efficient and safe roadway system which addresses the needs of all users, both motorized and non-motorized, of the our road network. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting safety studies and traffic analysis, installation of traffic control devices such as signs, signals, lighting, road markings and speed limit changes, as well as parking planning and related restrictions.
